  • Immich is great. The iPhone app is not trustworthy with syncing photos and always freezes. It will get there eventually, if you have the patience for crashes on the iOS app. In fact, for the last week the app just hangs on open, which usually means I need to re-install the app and all that. I have a large library of over 60k photos/videos and an older phone, which doesn’t help. Despite these issues, it’s still great. Every other feature works flawlessly. I haven’t tried this new update but I am hopeful and glad they are pushing forward with cleaning up syncing!

  • I am a filmmaker and have shot in 6k+ resolution since 2018. The extra pixels are great for the filmmaking side. Pixel binning when stepping down resolutions allows for better noise, color reproduction, sharpened details, and great for re-framing/cropping. 99% of my clients want their stuff in 1080p still! I barely even feel the urge to jump up to 4k unless the quality of the project somehow justifies it. Images have gotten to a good place. Detail won’t provide much more for human enjoyment. I hope they continue to focus on dynamic range, HDR, color accuracy, motion clarity, efficiency, etc. I won’t say no when we step up to 8k as an industry but computing as a whole is not close yet.

  • I also think it’s dystopian but it is quite helpful information to know when they were fed and/or napped. If you pick up your child and they are unusually hungry or tired, etc it can be helpful. I doubt the caretakers have time to talk to each parent or they change shifts. Paper forms are popular at less fancy places
