With LineageOS and microG in place a lot of work is already done in terms of having a free and open Android compatible mobile OS.

The FSF is now tackling the difficult part with firmware binaries that seems to stop a lot of phones from being supported.

This will take time, but as long as progress is made this will be awesome in the long run.

I don’t know much about this stuff… But if I’ve understood patents right; Someone else can’t patent your idea if you can prove you have had it and used it before them, right? I know some good stuff like the 3-point safety belt was patented and then free to use by any car maker in the name of safety. Is that what is going on here?

Bazzite is stable and “just works” but it achieves that by being a bit less conventional under the hood. Great for gaming and general computing.

If you like tinkering around, you might want to pick something else though.

For gaming, Bazzite is the best, most hands off, set and forget distro I have tried. I would really recommend Bazzite.

Not sure if it runs Unreal Engine 5, but it has Lutris installed and configured by default, so if it is as other commenters claim, you should be good.

It also has Steam amd Heroic launcher pre-installed, so everything is just there ready to play.

One of my previous jobs required we updated our personal phones and ticked a box in a document every month so that the company chat app was “on a secure environment/device”.

I normally keep my phone up to date, but my employer shouldn’t be telling me what to do with my private phone. I removed the company chat app since I didn’t want to comply with them controlling my personal devices.

After that they couldn’t reach me after hours. Great. After about 6 months they allowed me to use the chat app on my private phone again without insight or control over it. It may sound petty, but I think it’s an important distinction.

The development of Firefox would vanish and Firefox would slowly become outdated, insecure and unusable.

Unless the LibreWolf team has the resources to do all the maintenance of Firefox plus the LibreWolf specific work they already do, LibreWolf will be just as bad off as FireFox.

Firefox and all their derivatives like LibreWolf will deteriorate and become unusable unless someone magically swoops in and picks up Mozillas’ slack.

They don’t really advertise the server software on their website. How come?

They show off all servers, so surely it is self hostable. How come they don’t show off the server software?

I don’t doubt you could do it, but I’m rather looking for a reputable company providing it as a service. Not a random stranger on the internet 😄

I work in IT and have no problem setting this up for my self. The issue lies in maintaining it, keeping everything up to date and secure.

I don’t want a second job. I just want it to work and I am prepared to pay for it.
