I am glad someone else has noticed this. Why is my TV’s power consumption reported in kWh/1000 hours?

Perplexity provides references for its claims, which is better than most others.
I wonder if there is a refill cartridge with the flavour in it that the OS reads from to always display the right logo. Or maybe a touchscreen that the workers use to change it manually.
It could just be a backlit panel that you place a semi-transparent logo in front. Could be magnetic or slid into place. More resources than a sticker but probably far less than a system-on-a-chip running an OS and displaying the same picture on a monitor all day.
I agree with all you wrote, and it’s a good point well made. However, in the context of what it’s replying to, it could be interpreted as condoning the death penalty for extremists, which I disagree with, if it was intended that way.
I use NixOS and play games on it
I won’t use Ubuntu Desktop now, but I used it for 6 years: 16 to 22, and loved it for many reasons. I left it for two reasons:
So, I went to NixOS for the declarative setup. It’s not always easy especially for niche cases , but at least I always have a working backup. Yes, there are other options, but I like NixOS so I plan to stick with it for now.
My kids use Bazzite and I like that too.
I had a Honda with a CVT and it was pretty bulletproof. Never skipped a beat.
And, he always keeps his promises…
Me too, since 2016. I dabbled in dual-booting on and off since about 2k, but went full Linux in 2016 and have never looked back.
I’ve heard this described as a velvet rut.
Personally, I sometimes ponder if this is a part of The Great Filter. We have evolved to survive under constant threats in harsh environments, so when those dangers and threats are removed we don’t know how to handle it. We start to perceive minor things as bigger problems. I wonder if this is part of what we need to learn to deal with before we can live peacefully with our neighbours and nature.
This is funny, but would be more accurate if it said “MAGA Christians” instead of “White Christians”.
I’m an atheist and most of the Christians I know are pretty accepting. It’s almost as if they respect the teachings of Jesus and aspire to be more like him, unlike all too many MAGA Christians.
Exactly. FUD is what the opposition use to keep the revolution from happening, to prevent those who want to see change from believing it will work.
And as for accepting others, that’s another big hurdle to overcome. People need to put aside their differences to work towards a common goal, and for that there needs to be organised energetic leadership. Something else that the opposition tries to prevent.
According to this article, non-violent protests are even more effective than violent ones. Mobilise 3.5% of the population at once and you’re free. If any Americans try it, let me know how it goes.

Same here. Running NixOS on mine, and despite not being officially supported they have pretty good channels on their forums and the staff are quite active on there too.
I guess it depends on your use case. I haven’t owned a Windows PC since 2016. Linux all the way for me. The games I play run on it, the applications I need run on it, and it works well for me without tinkering getting in the way. I can even use it for work these days and I have far less VPN flakiness than both Windows and Mac colleagues.
For my use case the year of the Linux desktop is here, and has been for a while.
Richard? Is that you?
I recently started getting spam to my dailymotion account.
Whilst this answer is correct, it’s not entirely accurate, because it is dismissive of the root cause. The logical follow-up question is: “Why is energy billed in kWh?”. If the question/cycle answer continues down this line there will probably be an answer like “because <some person> had to make a decision once, and they chose this because of <some reason>, and now we’re all stuck with it because of convention.”
Anyone who doesn’t understand what joules are probably doesn’t understand what kWh are either. If the billing convention (and every other power consumption label) used joules (of course MJ or GJ) instead, then most people would just accept that as the unit of billing and measurement, and those who understand what the units mean would have an easier time of it.
