Personally, I found it as easy as Plex. I started my self hosting journey with Plex and Minecraft servers on a windows pc. Now I’m launching docker containers over ssh and lxc containers in proxmox for Jellyfin. Minecraft is still the hardest thing to host lol

I would recomend Linux mint, but the main thing, get used to the openscource alternatives for your programs you use now while you are still using windows. By the time you swap to linux, you’ll just have to get used to things like using “sudo apt install ****”, appimages and snaps. Just some things that are different about linux. Also I wouldn’t worry too much about trying to use a “gaming” distro. With some elbow grease pretty much any distro can look look and feel the same. All that matters is witch distro starts closest to what you want.

I followed the wiki and pulled off a successful install… On a vm. Once I felt confident and ready I remembered arch install was a thing and thought “sure I’ll try it, it’ll definetly break and I’ll just use the wiki to install” then it worked without a hitch. I’m still running arch with no issues.

Get the extension “DeArrow” it replaces thumbnails with random frames from the video and let’s the community edit titles, and auto un-capitalizes titles.

Compared to seeing Mr.Beast clone 678-1080 taking up the front with jimmy Kimmel for some reason, Yea I’d rather see a blank page too.

For sure, Wikipedia is for the most basic subjects to research, or the first step of doing any research (they could still offer helpful sources) . For basic stuff, or quick glances of something for conversation.
