Heyo! Just another random who’s moving over from centralized social media to the Fediverse. Mastodon wasn’t too bad but I love anything like Reddit!

Games, anime, Japanese, food, and music are my loves. Fanfic beats food tho, I can read for hours instead!

  • Yeah, everyone has slapped AI on everything and it sucks. What’s unfortunate is Krypton’s v6 (2022) editions include some AI voicebanks that are apparently mid, they make stuff sound more natural but don’t help tuning that much. The singers were properly paid, but outsiders aren’t gonna know that and will assume, “oh it’s just like all the other techbro nonsense.”

Basically anything pre-2022 is fine historically, Krypton literally didn’t have AI voice banks anyway and everyone in the fandom already knew you had to put effort into making a song with a Vocaloid, as they’re literally synths. But now more and more people are discovering the fandom without knowing the history, and if the first thing they see is “Look, we have AI now!”, not realizing that it’s only for naturalization/minor tuning and not “make me a song”, they’ll just throw it in the same pile.

  • Yeah, I really wonder where Synth V created songs will fall under this rule, cause even though the VAs were paid and it still requires good tuning, they’re technically AI… Maybe the older songs and the new popular songs will be fine due to having recognition, but any new small time producers are gonna suffer if they’ve got boys doing the checking.

I don’t use Spotify, but I assume they do know Vocaloid (and Miku) exists right? At least YT music has a recommended playlist for vocaloid songs anyway.

Edit: I know that Miku isn’t AI, and I’d never call her + the others AI. But Krypton has given Miku and the others AI voicebanks recently (although I heard the aren’t that good) and Synth V is getting more popular (Teto, Yi Xi, Elanor Forte, etc.). Hell, there are some Synth V songs that I’ve heard that I thought were real people…

But I’m worried about those who don’t know this info just doing a blanket “no robots/no AI” and nuking Vocaloid/V Synth songs

  • G instead of D for me, because while I love Asian food, they also have a lot of spicy-sweet foods, and I hate spicy-sweet. Just do sweet, or just do spicy, but don’t mix them in one. I hate sweet heat, there’s few dishes that can make me like it. I also don’t love a lot of tropical fruits and Asian fruits, I’m a basic bitch. But Tex-Mex all day? I can live with that, plus some Creole and soul food? Set for life. I will miss Asian food though… Curry, ramen, Kung Pao, lumpia…

I can’t tell if you’re joking or not, but I’ll bite.

I don’t love calling people, honestly, I might prefer talking to them in person rather than calling (same for texting, I really don’t bother with texting) and I have literally cried after making an awkward call. But I still would prefer a million times over to call an actual person to take my pizza order, and for other purchases in general.

Like yeah, online shopping and self-checkout at grocery stores are great and make sense for what you’re trying to achieve. But the robot making your pizza order is gonna fuck up and add crazy unwanted toppings, or forget to mention the spice level, or etc. A real human can clarify your questions and give you extra info like, “Oh yeah it has a slightly sweet taste to the spice,” or, “This drink is really popular for people who like fruity drinks and aren’t too big on strong alcohol.” Like you would have to do way too much effort to train a bot for all that.

I don’t wanna needlessly put people out of a simple job just because of the occasional awkward call. And talking in person is almost always a joy rather than calling. Sometimes I have a decent convo with a staff member. I have a lot of introvert tendencies, but this is one that I just tell myself “get over it”, especially when another friend is too nervous to talk, then I’ll do it for them.

  • I think the thing to focus on is bothering real people. If a guy jacks it to Yuri, who gives a shit, they’re pictures. Same thing for girls and yaoi. Although I dislike it a bit, guys jacking to irl lesbians (like porn) doesn’t hurt anybody either, and vice versa. It’s when we get into that “harassment of real people” territory where you should be shamed. If you’re a guy being creepy to lesbians/queer people online/irl, you are a disgusting human being who is making others uncomfortable. Same for women who do the same to gay/queer people.

Basically, ethically gooning and having “toxic fetishes” is possible. As long as a foot fetishist doesn’t get hot and bothered around people at a waterpark, nor begs for feet pics from randos in their DMs, who the fuck am I to judge? It’s once you can’t control your fetish around unwilling participants that you get the horny bonk.

  • We’re only in the second week, so there’s not much I’ve learned yet, but I’m taking a Linux class (for cybersec, so we’re using Kali VMs), and I’m honestly excited. I already know some basics due to using Fedora as my daily driver, but I never took the time to properly learn Linux, so this class will help me to be power user and maybe fix my own shit more (Or at least troubleshoot better).

We did open vi for a short bit and yes, we did not know how to exit 😅

  • Fedora originally did this… and then has slowly broken along the way and I’m getting too tired to fix it. First it was Bluetooth back around February due to kernel issues, then it was my trackpad a few weeks ago (can’t remember what’s causing it) so I have to use USB mouse now, and now I’ve realized that there’s no audio when I record with my camera, but I’m not sure how to troubleshoot it to figure out what drivers I’m missing.

The camera could’ve been broken for a while tbh, I haven’t had to use it since early spring when I had a Zoom class. But since my Bluetooth broke back then I usually switched to Windows to do my Zooms…

  • Once I get more comfortable with my Japanese reading skills, I want to play visual novel games. But like, they’re mostly 2010s era games that were still 32-bit and on like Windows 7. But on top of that, I need to use Textractor to be able to hook the games to have selectable text (for flashcard creation and easy word lookups). So I followed a guide to have this unholy setup on Lutris that lets me start up a VN and textractor at the same time. Anyway worked for one game but another is like, MEGA slow when I start it and glitchy… (Nitro+chiral fuck you)

Gonna stick with manga and my hacked 3DS for now lol 😅
