  • If there’s one thing I’ve learned about people in general, it’s that no one is particularly interesting*. By that, I mean whenever someone asks “am I the only one who …” or they think they’re the only one who thinks a certain way, they are always, without fail, wrong. You don’t want to be the manly man, there are many like you and many women who prefer that.

What we all see on social media isn’t reality. Some of it are just memes, some of it’s just an echo chamber bouncing off each other, circlejerking their way into thinking all women get the ick if you have emotions. Even Instagram, where this is particularly bad, claims to have 3 billion active monthly users. Even if by some miracle each of these users were different real human beings, that’s still shy of half of the population in the best case scenario. In reality, even with Instagram, MOST people in the world don’t use it, so what you see there isn’t representative of society. Nevermind that the almighty algorithm and the “culture” there attracts a certain type of person.

Honestly, the fact that there isn’t an “incel” subculture full of progressive men who gave up because their personality wasn’t patriarchal enough makes me wonder …

    There are.

In any case, if you want my opinion, women are people just like you. The same way you came to your conclusions and preferences, they have too. You want an equal relationship and some women will as well. Are there people like you described? Of course, but that doesn’t mean anything more than that you two are incompatible. So if you meet one in your efforts to find a relationship, that’s ok, just move on.

*many people are very interesting, I’m just making a point

  • That’s fair and there’s a huge range of opinions from people who currently use Linux regarding moving people to Linux. I see comments when I watch YouTube videos around Linux from people who literally don’t want people to come to Linux unless you’re full in to the open source belief, fully in to learning the terminal and os, and all those -insult- people who just want it to work can stay in windows and Mac.

There are absolutely others who considered Linux, see a comment like that, and abandon the idea because “fuck those guys”.

  • I had nothing but problems with Manjaro, but I’m having a better experience on Kubuntu LTS.

Well there’s your issue. You work in IT and picked a distro for someone with your knowledge. Car guys cause themselves hours of work all the time. Someone who just wants a computer to work can generally pick something like Linux mint and be good to go, with pre-installed applications that cover the major uses. You’ll have to learn where things are, but it’s relatively similar to windows. The issue would be if they happen to search online for how to do something that they haven’t found in the UI yet, often they’ll find terminal commands instead.

I’m not one saying that EVERYONE needs to use Linux, I just got a new pc, and I’m giving my old one to someone, and i ran the windows 11 iso through microwin and installed that for them. But when someone hits an issue and starts considering other options, there are simpler ones out there. Like when BMW tried to charge a subscription for heated seats. We don’t need to learn to put together the whole car (arch), we can just get a Honda.

  • I’m bothered that big companies, especially tech right now, no longer see their customers as people they need to please to stay in business, but instead as something they’ll inconvenience and squeeze as much as they can possibly get away with.

They all got to where they are making, at one point, amazing products. Now? Fuck making windows useful, we can throw ads and AI at you every place we can think of. Fuck all of the parts of Android that made it stand out, we tell you what to install. You don’t want all of your data scraped and sold? Fuck you, there’s 3 of us and we’re all doing it. In fact we’ll never stop finding new ways to harvest data.

Phones have basically stagnated entirely in the US. Sure you get moderately better chipsets, but what else? AI? I haven’t had a phone struggle with anything in… maybe 10 years. Instead features that people didn’t use enough just get removed.
